Hello

I’m Vernon Dugger, a counselor dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges. My journey into counseling is shaped by a rich blend of experiences—from ministry to business leadership and 45 years of a wonderful marriage—all of which have deepened my understanding of human connection, personal growth, relationship dynamics, and crisis intervention. These experiences allow me to approach counseling with wisdom, compassion, and a genuine commitment to supporting others through both everyday struggles and critical moments of need.

My Story

I was born in Colorado and completed my undergraduate degree in Speech Communication and
Education at the University of Northern Colorado. In 1982, I got married and then attended Abilene
Christian University, where I earned a Master of Divinity and a Master of Biblical and Related
Studies. My wife and I moved to North Carolina, where I served as a Youth and Campus Minister for
about 15 years. During our time in North Carolina, I also obtained a Master of Science in Agency
Counseling.
With two children, we eventually moved back to Colorado, where I became President and partner of
a Steel Erection Company, a role I held for 22 years. After closing our company, I began working
part-time with Khesed Wellness as a counselor and started a private practice in March 2025. I plan
to continue serving in this practice alongside Khesed Wellness into my retirement, hoping to give
back the blessings I have received throughout my life.

What is Counseling?

Much of our life involves dealing with things we cannot control. Viktor Frankl famously said that the
only true freedom we have in life is how we choose to respond to life's challenges. This belief forms
the cornerstone of my counseling philosophy. I see counseling as a process where we explore our
current responses, understand and accept their roots, and learn how we might respond differently in
the future to achieve our desired outcomes.
The therapeutic relationship is designed to facilitate self-exploration and a critical analysis of how
and why we are living. By understanding our values and roots, we can take an in-depth look at our
current situation and consider modifications that might bring a sense of peace and balance.
I enjoy working with couples and am trained to Gottman Level 2. I am skilled in treating depression
and anxiety, and LGBTQ issues. Spiritual development is my forte. Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy and Logotherapy, developed by Viktor Frankl, have shaped my technique. My 40-plus years
of marriage, 15 years in ministry, and 23 years of operating a business provide a unique framework
for helping clients navigate their challenges.
